Explore rights in English, Scots, Gaelic and BSL

Let’s Explore Our Rights is a beautifully illustrated book that introduces very young children to their human rights. Aimed at children aged up to five, it takes readers on a gentle journey to explore rights like having a safe home, being healthy, learning, and playing. It was illustrated by Corinna Campbell and features well-known landmarks from across Scotland. The children from Lochardil Primary School Early Learning and Childcare (ELC) played a vital role in creating the book, with their ideas helping to create and refine the illustrations, and some of their own drawings included.
Early years practitioners asked for a resource to help spark first conversations about human rights with young children. This book explains what rights are and why they matter in simple, age-appropriate language, supporting children to understand that their rights should be respected by the adults who care for them.
To make the resource accessible to as many children as possible, the book is available in multiple formats and languages. Below, you’ll find downloadable versions in English, Gaelic and Scots, along with recorded video readings including BSL interpretation and children narrators.
