2019’s theme for ENYA and ENOC was children’s rights in the digital environment. We worked with over 20 young people from across Scotland to come up with three recommendations on how these can be better respected in countries across Europe. We then worked with them to create three short videos explaining them.
The young people’s recommendations were:
More understanding of how poverty impacts internet access
Stop blocking websites that can help us at school
More support when bad things happen online
Travelling to the ENYA Forum
Two of our group of young people – Beccie and Matthew – travelled to Brussels in June to present the videos and help create a joint statement with young people from across Europe.
This influenced the statement on digital rights by the European Network of Ombudspersons for Children, which met in Northern Ireland in September 2019.
