April 2019. Human Rights Defenders are people who protect or promote human rights— their own, or their rights of others.
Anyone can act as a human rights defender no matter the age they are. And regardless of their age, when they do they are protected by international law.
At the Children and Young People’s Commissioner’s office, we think it’s time they get the help and support they’re entitled to.
With that aim, we worked with an Action Group of young human rights defenders. We helped them create a list of eight recommendations for adults in power in Scotland.
This report explains and highlights these recommendations. It gives a voice to young people actively working to protect and promote our human rights.
