Statement: Commissioner reacts to MSPs’ vote on UNCRC incorporation

Nicola Killean, Children and Young People’s Commissioner Scotland, said: “Today’s vote at the Scottish Parliament is a very significant step towards making children’s rights real in law. Children and young people have led the way in campaigning for UNCRC incorporation for decades, and we are so close to seeing their dream – and ours – become a reality. They have told us how important incorporation of their rights is and that it shows them clearly that their rights are serious and meaningful in Scotland. The passage of the Bill today is testament to their determination and tenacity. Thanks must also go to the MSPs who voted again today to reiterate their support for incorporation. We must now focus on ensuring children and young people in Scotland have their rights protected and fulfilled.”
