Our office is a space where the Commissioner and their team of fierce champions work to protect the rights of children and young people.
It was designed taking advice from children to be a safe and welcoming place where they feel their voices will be heard.
Our office works in a slightly unusual way. It’s the Commissioner who has legal powers, and the Commissioner who is legally a public body. When our office does anything, ultimately we are acting on behalf of the Commissioner.
The Commissioner and their senior management team oversee the governance and management requirements of our work.
If you are a child or a young person and would like advice and information from the Commissioner’s office – or to tell us something you’re worried about – you can contact us:
- using the form at the bottom of our website
- emailing us at inbox@cypcs.org.uk
- texting 0770 233 5720 (Texts will be charged at your standard network rate)
- calling our children and young people’s freephone on 0800 019 1179.
We can also give advice and information about children’s rights issues to adults—please contact us on inbox@cypcs.org.uk or through using our contact form.

Our team are currently hybrid-working between our office in Edinburgh and remotely. This means it is best to contact the person or people you would like to meet to make an arrangement. Visit our Staff page or contact us for more information.
If you are concerned that a child may be at immediate risk of harm, please contact your local Social Work Department or Police Scotland (dialling 999 in an emergency) as a matter of urgency.
Our office is not able to investigate child protection concerns.
