Meet child human rights defenders, a World Cup winner, and find out about the right to not be discriminated against

Kick off the build-up to this summer’s World Cup with our next online assembly – and meet footballing child human rights defenders AND a World Cup winner. 

Children and Young People’s Commissioner Nicola Killean and Young Advisor Oscar will host the exciting session, with BSL interpretation, on Friday, 24 April. 

The assembly will focus on discrimination – being treated unfairly – and will show children that they all have rights, no matter who they are. 

During the assembly children will: 

• be inspired by a girls’ primary football team who stood up and demanded fair treatment at a local tournament, 

• find out about Rose Reilly, Scotland’s only World Cup winner, as she and the young footballers share stories about overcoming discrimination, and 

• learn about rights and be empowered to tackle unfairness. 

Commissioner Nicola said: “All children have the right not to be discriminated against, and this assembly will explore that in a fun, engaging, and interactive way. 

“Children will hear stories from other children about what they have done in the face of discrimination, and how they have changed things for the better. I hope they’ll be inspired and will leave the assembly feeling empowered. 

“So please join us live at 9.30am for 30 minutes on Friday, 24 April, to explore children’s rights.”
