What makes you happy?

What makes you happy? Join Nicola Killean, the Children and Young People’s Commissioner, to celebrate children’s human rights on UN International Day of Happiness on March 20.
This assembly – with BSL interpretation – will be hosted by the Commissioner and a young person. At this fun and interactive session, children will:
- learn more about rights, with a focus on mental health
- enjoy a laughter yoga session altogether
- share thoughts and ideas on what makes us feel good
The Children and Young People’s Commissioner promotes and protects children’s rights in Scotland. This assembly is the second in a series run in partnership with e-Sgoil, Scotland’s online learning and teaching platform, during this school year. The first was held on World Children’s Day on November 20, where 15,000 children joined Nicola, and Sorcha, 12, one of the office’s Young Advisors.
Commissioner Nicola said: “I am so excited about this assembly and can’t wait to be joined by children from all over Scotland. We’ll have great fun celebrating UN International Day of Happiness, with our focus on children’s rights, including the right to mental health.
“Last summer, the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child became part of our law in Scotland. This assembly is a chance for children to come together and be inspired. The UNCRC says that all children should grow up in an atmosphere of happiness, love and understanding, but we know that is not always the case. This session will be a half-hour of laughter and creativity with rights at its heart.
“So please join us live at 2pm for 30 minutes on Thursday, 20 March, to spread a bit of happiness across Scotland!”
