Commissioner Bruce Adamson is talking to the camera. This text is a transcript of what she says in this video.
What the Commissioner says
Incorporation of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child is the most important thing we can do to protect and safeguard the rights of all children across Scotland.
What it means is taking the international obligations that we have signed up to and giving them real force in Scotland, by creating a law in Scotland which says that if people don’t meet their promises to children, we can hold them to account in a much stronger way. And this is going to benefit those children whose rights are most at risk.
What it’s going to do is change the way in which people make decisions around things like budgets. It’s going to deliver culture change. And so that domestic law that comprehensively puts children’s rights into the heart of everything we do is going to be a really powerful thing.
